The North Pole Expedition ⛴️🧊
The Arctic offers endless opportunities for exploration, but Svalbard boasts fjords, ice formations, and the densest polar bear populations in the region.
Svalbard was formerly called Spitsbergen, which means "pointed mountains" in Dutch. This region was discovered in 1596 by the Dutch explorer Willem Barentsz. Since its discovery, expeditions have continued; however, they are no longer what they once were.
Now it is possible to enjoy a polar adventure WITHOUT sacrificing comfort and safety.
🧤 What to pack?

The cruise line offers several Arctic expeditions, ranging from seven-day trips to 22-day adventures. Your choice depends on the season, the activities you want to do, and, of course, your budget.

22 Days Extensive Arctic Ocean – Northwest Iceland - Spitsbergen Explorer ⛴️ 🧊
This 22-day trip is scheduled to begin on May 29 and end on June 20, 2026. You start by boarding near the international airport in the port of Keflavik, Iceland. Heading north, you'll enter Faxaflói Bay to reach the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, where you can go whale watching.
The next seven days of the expedition take place in Iceland. First, Snaefellsjökull, a glacier-covered volcano and a famous site because it's where Jules Verne's popular novel, "Journey to the Center of the Earth," began. Next, they visit Breidafjörður to try and spot white-tailed eagles, disembark at Flatey, and explore the traditional fishing village. Following this, they travel to the Arctic Circle to observe more wildlife and perhaps even a solitary polar bear.

Crossing Eyafjörður, Iceland's largest fjord, marks the beginning of the open-sea adventure. Here, you'll most likely spot your first whales. This is just a brief introduction, because upon reaching Grimsey and sailing towards Jan Mayen Island, the search for humpback whales, fin whales, minke whales, blue whales, and perhaps even orcas truly begins.
For history buffs, there's also the opportunity to explore a 17th-century Dutch whaling station. This volcanic landscape, steeped in the history of the Dutch whaling industry, possesses a powerful and evocative atmosphere.
In the last week of the trip, you'll arrive in Spitsbergen to enjoy the vast fjord filled with glaciers, and perhaps even spot ringed and bearded seals. The cliffs and coastline are also home to thriving seabird colonies, lush vegetation, and the possibility of encountering polar bears.
The northernmost point of the voyage could be north of Nordaustlandet, at Chermsideøya or Phippsøya, in the Seven Islands. There we could reach 80° north, just 870 km (540 miles) from the geographic North Pole. Polar bears inhabit this region, so the ship could spend several hours among the ice before turning west again.
The adventure ends when the ship returns to Longyearbyen early the next morning. There, a bus transfer is provided to take travelers back to the airport.
